About our new partners ministry: Ministry to catholic College Students
The Word Among Us currently touches the lives of nearly 450,000 Catholics every month, encouraging them in a life of prayer and Catholic discipleship. Yet, only a small portion of college-age Catholics uses The Word Among Us! We are not yet fulfilling our mission to serve the “young” church. We believe that the Lord is asking us to serve 50,000 young Catholics and help them in a life of prayer and lectio divina. Provided free of charge, The Word Among Us is a resource that Catholic chaplains can use to:
Help Catholic college students encounter Jesus Christ through daily prayer and Scripture reading and engage students in full, active participation in the sacramental life of the Catholic Church.
Consistent with the New Evangelization and the call to “make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19), The Word Among Us sees reaching these college students as essential for positively impacting the future of the Catholic Church. College students stand at a precipice in their faith journey. Only 14% of all Catholics in college attend weekly Mass. Students are hungry for truth and meaning, but most are not being reached effectively. Through copies of The Word Among Us, provided at no cost to Catholic chaplains, we seek to provide orthodox and practical teaching to assist students in developing a pattern of daily prayer and Scripture and participation in the sacramental life of the Church so that they may grow as Christian disciples.
Currently as part of a pilot program, we are sending free copies of the Advent and Lent issue of The Word Among Us Mass edition to eight colleges. Based on their feedback, we intend to increase the distribution to serve 10,000 college students with free copies during Advent and Lent by the end of 2014. Within five years, we hope to serve 50,000 Catholic college students every month with The Word Among Us.
